BSO deputy killed in collision Officer was responding to domestic dispute in Deerfield Beach

DEERFIELD BEACH A Broward Sheriff’s deputy on his way to a domestic violence dispute was killed after colliding with a pickup about 3 a.m. Sunday in Deerfield Beach.

“This morning our hearts are heavy,” the agency said in a post on social media. “The Broward Sheriff’s Office family is grieving the loss of a BSO deputy who died after being involved in an on-duty crash early Sunday morning. We ask for thoughts and prayers.”

The agency tweeted a photo showing dozens of deputies lined up outside the hospital to salute a flag-draped casket.

Officials have not yet released the names of the deputy or the driver of the pickup.

Shortly after 3 a.m., two deputies in separate marked vehicles were heading south on Military Trail approachin­g the Southwest 10th Street intersecti­on, agency spokeswoma­n Veda Coleman

As the first deputy made his way through the intersecti­on, he collided with a Toyota Tundra heading east on Southwest 10th Street.

The second deputy witnessed the crash and immediatel­y called for help.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue crews transporte­d both men to Broward Health North in Deerfield Beach.

The deputy was declared dead at the hospital, Coleman-Wright said.

The driver of the pickup is in stable condition and expected to survive.

Traffic homicide detectives began investigat­ing the crash immediatel­y after it happened, ColemanWri­ght said.

The investigat­ion snarled traffic along both 10th Street and Military Trail for hours on Sunday.
