Steelers to start Hodges at QB

- News services

With Ben Roethlisberger and Mason Rudolph sidelined by injuries, the Steelers will go with Devlin Hodges at QB on Sunday against the Chargers.

Hodges, 23, was undrafted despite setting a Football Championship Subdivision record for career passing yards while at Samford. Hodges, who joined the Steelers in May, was pressed into action during last Sunday’s 26-23 overtime loss to the Ravens after Rudolph suffered a concussion.

Hodges completed seven of nine passes for 68 yards.

“One thing about Hodges is he’s going to throw it regardless,” Steelers receiver JuJu SmithSchuster said. “He trusts it to us, he puts it out there Either we catch it, nobody catches it, and that’s when he runs it. He’s very confident in the huddle.”

Hodges will be backed up by Paxton Lynch, a former first-round pick of the Broncos.

Roethlisberger is out for the season with an elbow injury.

Kamara could sit: Saints RB Alvin Kamara is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Jaguars because of an ankle injury that limited his practice time on Thursday and kept him sidelined on Friday.

Kamara, 24, has 583 yards and two touchdowns from scrimmage for the Saints. He’s rushed 75 times for 342 yards and one TD.

Ramsey questionable: The Jaguars have listed CB Jalen Ramsey as questionable to play Sunday against the Saints.

Coach Doug Marrone made the designation on Friday, one day after owner Shad Khan said he expects the disgruntled defender to return after a two-week absence because of an apparent back injury.

Ramsey, 24, has to be traded. requested

Keenum starts again: Redskins interim coach Bill Callahan tapped Case Keenum to start at QB on Sunday against the Dolphins in a matchup of winless clubs.

Keenum, 31, was given the nod over Colt McCoy, who started last Sunday’s 33-7 loss to the Patriots. In four games this season, Keenum has thrown for 970 yards with seven TDs and 4 INTs.

Rookie Dwayne Haskins will back up Keenum.

Extra points: Ravens S Earl Thomas told ESPN he was fined $21,000 for a hit that left Steelers QB Mason Rudolph unconscious. Thomas plans to appeal. … Broncos FB Andy Janovich signed a three-year extension worth $5.7 million.
