Latinos win when we put America first

Latinos are winning under President Trump’s “America First” policies. Sadly, obstructionist Democrats are standing in the way of even greater success.

For more than two years, the President’s pro-growth policies have made Latino and Hispanic Americans more prosperous, helping them thrive like never before in our country’s history.

Last month, for example, the Hispanic unemployment rate fell to an all-time low of 3.9 percent — almost two percentage points lower than it was when Trump first took office in 2017.

This remarkable accomplishment, which just so happened to coincide with this year’s National Hispanic Heritage Month, was only possible thanks to the president’s success in rebuilding the U.S. economy and spurring the creation of millions of new jobs across America.

As a direct result of Trump’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, workers saved an average of about $1,400 on their federal income taxes in 2018. Businesses are investing and expanding at a prodigious pace, which is great news for Latinos, who start new businesses more frequently than any other demographic group in America.

The president has also repealed hundreds of job-killing regulations, allowing U.S. companies to go on a historic hiring spree that has created new jobs for more than one million Latinas. That means better jobs and more opportunity for our Puerto Rican, Venezuelan, Cuban, and Mexican neighbors here in Florida.

“Since 2016, Hispanic American median household income has risen by $1,500, and is now the highest level in the history of our country,” Trump noted in a recent speech, adding that more Latinas now own small businesses than ever before.

It’s not just Hispanics here in the U.S. who are winning, though. Latin American countries also stand to benefit from the Trump’s “America First” agenda, a major element of which is promoting fair and honest trade with economic partners such as Mexico.

The United States-MexicoCanada Agreement (USMCA), which is currently awaiting approval by Congress, makes much-needed reforms that will enhance the benefits of free, fair, and reciprocal trade for all three countries. The Democrats, however, have sidelined the USMCA for no reason other than to spite the president.

Trump has also led the fight against multinational criminal organizations by securing the U.S.-Mexico border. The humanitarian crisis at our southern border devastates both sides. For decades, human trafficking and drug smuggling operations have exploited our broken immigration system, but Trump is now giving our immigration enforcement agents the tools they need to save countless lives and secure our homeland.

America first, however, does not mean America alone. Donald Trump has successfully negotiated bilateral immigration deals with Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras, providing the White House with even more tools to combat the ongoing illegal immigration crisis.

The Trump administration has also been at the forefront of international efforts to support a democratic and constitutional movement in Venezuela, where a socialist regime clings grimly to power. America is leading the way, with 16 Latin American countries joining President Trump in recognizing Juan Guaidó as the legitimate president of Venezuela. The United States will continue to stand with the people of Venezuela until their freedom and democracy are restored.

Sadly for millions of Latinos, both here and abroad, the Democrat Party is determined to obstruct President Trump at every turn.

The Democrats running for president in 2020 are already promising to repeal his middle-class tax cuts and implement radical big-government initiatives that would raise taxes by trillions of dollars. To make matters worse, the Democrats are loudly voicing their support for open borders, and want to provide taxpayerfunded healthcare to illegal aliens.

Those who argue that President Trump’s “America First” agenda is somehow hostile to Latinos are clearly mistaken. The President’s pro-growth, proAmerica policies have uplifted all American workers, including millions of Hispanic and Latino Americans, while also giving hope to the millions of Latinos who are currently being repressed by brutal socialist dictatorships.

As Trump vowed before Congress earlier this year, “America will never be a socialist country.” By failing to put America first, all the Democrats achieve with their obstructionism is standing in the way of even greater prosperity for Latinos and all Americans.
