Martinez monitoring Tigers’ offense

Aquinas offensive linemen excited over LSU’s 7-0 start

- By Adam Lichtenstein

St. Thomas Aquinas offensive lineman Marlon Martinez visited LSU, the coaching staff told him their offense would be different this season.

That offense, led by quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate Joe Burrow, has been the talk of college football. The Tigers are 7-0 entering this week’s game against Auburn, and they’ve averaged 50 points per game.

“They told me when I was over there that way were going to change up their offense,” Martinez said. “I was very [excited] to see what they were going to change and I’m really pleased with what

I’m seeing.”

LSU doesn’t have the reputation of running a high-flying offense, so this season has impressed the St. Thomas lineman.

“As an offensive lineman, it’s really exciting to watch them play,” Martinez said. “They’re definitely stepping up their offense. I love the way they play, their tempo. It kind of reminds me of what we have here, so it really excites me watching their games.”

Martinez has been committed to LSU since May 25. He is rated a three-star prospect by 247Sports’ composite ranking. He is listed as the No. 669 overall player in the 2020 class and the No. 40 offensive guard.

Stellato names his favorites: Cardinal Gibbons standout junior wide receiver Troy Stellato named a list of his favorite colleges on Sunday night.

The not-so-narrow list is made up of Alabama, Clemson, Duke, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio State, Penn State and USC.

Stellato’s recruitment has taken off since he began his junior year.

“Just coaches that are real and who I feel the most love from,” Stellato said in September. “Just, when I step on campus, if it’s going to feel like home or not. Playing time, also, how many receivers are going to be there will be a big part. … I’d go anywhere in the country if it’s the right fit.”

Stellato has 471 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 26 receptions so far this season.
