Kosar will be honored at title game

Bernie Kosar may have never played in the Atlantic Coast Conference, but he will be honored by the ACC as part of the conference’s 2019 Football Legends Class.

Kosar, the quarterback of Miami’s first national championshipwinning team in 1983, was named as UM’s selection from the 14-member class that had one player from each of the ACC’s 14 football schools.

The class will be honored during the ACC Night of Legends at the Charlotte Convention Center on Dec. 6 and during the on-field pregame festivities at the ACC Championship Game on Dec. 7 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

Kosar threw for a combined 5,971 yards and 40 touchdowns at Miami between the 1983 and 1984 seasons. He left the school holding UM career records for passes completed, passing yards and touchdown passes, while still holding the school record for completion percentage.

A first-round NFL supplemental draft pick of the Cleveland Browns, Kosar finished his NFL career with 23,301 yards and 124 touchdowns. He was a member of the Super Bowl XXVIII champion Dallas Cowboys in 1993 and ended his career with the Miami Dolphins from 1994 through 1996.

Kosar did not play in the ACC as UM was an independent during his college career. The Hurricanes joined the Big East in 1991 and then switched conference affiliations to the ACC in 2004.

In addition to Kosar, the class includes Boston College’s Joe Nash, Clemson’s Brian Dawkins, Duke’s Christopher Port, Florida State’s Ron Sellers, Georgia Tech’s Derrick Morgan, Louisville’s Deion Branch, North Carolina’s Julius Peppers, NC State’s Nate Irving, Pitt’s Rickey Jackson, Syracuse’s Joe Morris, Virginia’s Don Majkowski, Virginia Tech’s DeAngelo Hall and Wake Forest’s Bob McCeary.
