Granderson wins Marvin Miller Man of the Year for fourth time

One of the most respected players in baseball, Curtis Granderson is continuing to earn high praise across the league.

On Thursday, the Marlins outfielder was named the Marvin Miller Man of the Year for the fourth time in his 16-year MLB career. Voted on by players, the award recognizes the player who’s garnered the “most respect based on his leadership on the field and in the community.”

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout and New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia were the other finalists.

Granderson, 38, also won the award in 2009, 2016 and 2018 during his time with

the New York Mets, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays and Milwaukee Brewers.

The longtime veteran played this past season with the Marlins after signing a one-year contract with the team in the offseason.

Playing mostly in right field, Granderson appeared in 138 games, hitting .183/.281/.356 with 12 home runs and 17 doubles. He spent most of the second half as a platoon player, slugging a Marlins single-season best four pinch-hit home runs.

A free agent, Granderson may played his final MLB game.

While he’s open to going another season, opportunit­ies and interest may be limited. During his career, Granderson has played in 2,057 games, amassing 1,800 hits, 346 doubles and 344 home runs. The outfielder is tied for 97th on the all-time MLB home run list.
