No scooters allowed on beach during boat show
FORT LAUDERDALE Just about anything goes at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Anything but dockless scooters, that is.
More than 110,000 visitors from all over the world are expected to descend on the beach for the 60th annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. And safety-conscious city leaders would like to make sure all those visitors are not buzzed by speeding scooters.
That means the entire barrier island will be a scooter-free zone through Nov. 8.
The temporary ban applies to both electric and motorized scooters and all other forms of dockless transportation.
The ban extends throughout the entire barrier island, from the Atlantic Ocean to the Intracoastal Waterway, and from Southeast
17th Street north Northeast 42nd Court.
Police officers will be on the lookout for scooter scofflaws, city officials warn.
Fort Lauderdale has banned scooters on the beach and other locations for special events, including music festivals and Spring Break.
City officials banned electric scooters from the beach in June to give staff time to come up with safety reforms. to The ban, initially set to end on Aug. 18, was extended indefinitely to give staff more time to iron out the details.
