Blain, Benjamin breeze by Oxbridge

It’s hard to beat a good team three times in a season, but the Benjamin Buccaneers (20-1) girls volleyball team pulled off the trifecta on Tuesday night against the visiting Oxbridge Academy Thunderwol­ves in a Class 3A regional semifinal in Palm Beach Gardens.

After dropping the opening game 25-21 to the Thunderwol­ves (16-7), the Bucs rallied to win the next three sets 25-18, 25-16, 25-17.

In the fourth set, Oxbridge fell behind 7-1, but after a timeout, the Thunderwol­ves rallied to tie the game at 13 and then again at 14 before the Buccaneers then stormed ahead 22-15.

St. Thomas Aquinas steamrolls one step closer to states: St. Thomas Aquinas, looking for its fifth state championsh­ip in the past six seasons, dismissed visiting Our Lady of Lourdes 25-12, 25-14, 25-23 in Fort Lauderdale to gain a berth in the girls 6A volleyball regional final and get within three wins from its seventh state title.

Aquinas (22-7) captured the opening two games with little resistance before the Bobcats challenged the Raiders in a tight final game.

McCarthy again tops Suncoast in regional semi: Archbishop McCarthy is heading back to the regional finals for the fourth straight year. The Mavericks had a strong performanc­e as they went on the road and swept Suncoast 25-13, 25-20, 25-21 in a girls volleyball Class 5A regional semifinal on Tuesday night.

Archbishop McCarthy advanced to the Class 5A regional final and will play Tuesday vs. Barron Collier or American Heritage.

Archbishop McCarthy, which has won four consecutiv­e district titles, also defeated Suncoast for the fourth straight season in the regional semifinal.

Visiting Coral Springs Charter advances in 4A: Freshman Sydney Mills had 27 assists along with 25 service points to lead Coral Springs Charter to a 3-1 (25-12, 25-23, 15-25, 25-14) win over host Pine Crest in a Class 4A regional semifinal in Fort Lauderdale.

The win advances Coral Springs Charter (18-7) into Tuesday’s regional finals to play at the winner of the St. Brendan-Cardinal Gibbons semi.

Bates, Williams, Calvary Christian roll by King’s: Calvary Christian Academy swept King’s Academy 25-20, 25-14, 25-15 in a Class 3A regional semifinal in Fort Lauderdale to move within one victory of making the final four.

Calvary (18-6), chasing its first berth at state, will play the winner of the Benjamin-Oxbridge match in a regional final Nov. 5. If Oxbridge wins, ut will be at CCA. If Benjamin wins, it will be at Benjamin.
