Sawgrass, a magnet for tourists, is undergoing a multimillion-dollar renovation to be completed in time to celebrate its 30th anniversary in late 2020.
The facelift includes revamped flooring, a massive undertaking considering the mall’s more than 2.3-million-square-feet of space. Updates also include seating and tables in lounge areas, ecofriendly lighting, new skylights and upgrades to both food halls. Exterior redecorating will include new canopies, landscaping, lighting and signs along with spruced up entrances embellished with eye-catching art elements.
“Sawgrass Mills has evolved into a renowned global shopping destination,” David Gott, Sawgrass Mills general manager, said in a news release. “The center has gone through six expansions and brought a long list of retail, dining and entertainment firsts to the market in its 30 years. We are excited to embark on the property’s largest renovation to date in our mission to deliver an unparalleled shopping experience.”
New stores that have opened this year include the first Florida outlet for accessory retailer Alex and Ani; Ariat, which sells Western and English equestrian gear; children’s clothier Monnalisa; and Nectar Bath Treats.
New restaurants include Seasons 52, which opened in April, and a soon-to-open Shake Shack.
Coming in 2020: Primark, the British-owned Irish fashion brand, which also sells beauty products and housewares; and a new 174-room AC Hotel by Marriott. A walkway from the hotel, set to open in the spring, will lead guests to the posh Colonnade Outlets.
