Kilgore ‘feeling pretty good,’ eyes return to line Sunday

- By Omar Kelly

DAVIE – The Miami Dolphins could be getting much-needed reinforcements for Sunday’s road game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Starting center Daniel Kilgore, who has been sidelined the past three games with a right knee injury he suffered in a 17-16 loss to the Washington Redskins, has practiced the last two weeks and appears close to making a return.

So is defensive end Avery Moss, who has started four of the five games he’s played for the Dolphins before spraining his right ankle against the Redskins.

Like Kilgore, Moss has practiced on a limited basis the past two weeks, but hasn’t been cleared to play.

“It was good,” Kilgore said, referring to his rehabilitation period. “It allowed my knee to heal and rest the body. The past couple of weeks I was just getting back into the groove of things and I’m feeling pretty good.”

According to coach Brian Flores, this might be the week for each to make their return based on how they’ve been performing. Moss, an edge-setting specialist who has 16 tackles, could help the Dolphins improve its run defense. Linebacker Vince Biegel has served as his replacement in Miami’s base defense, and at times the Dolphins use a defensive tackle as its edge-setting end.

Flores praised Moss earlier this season for being one of the top newcomers.

Evan Boehm has started the past three games at center. Kilgore’s return would allow him to move back to right guard, where the Dolphins have used Shaq Calhoun, Chris Reed and Keaton Sutherland.

Coincidentally, Boehm’s practice was limited because of a hip injury he suffered in Sunday’s 26-18 win over the New York Jets.

“The guys have done a really good job the past couple of weeks. We can get better at everything, but we’ve definitely gotten closer. You can see we’re in games,” Kilgore said when asked about the offensive line’s improvement in recent weeks. “We’re not perfect by any means, but you can see things are getting better on a weekly basis.” 5 Micah’s Girl (E.Jaramillo)
