Next year, the stakes will be even higher at the Boca Raton Championship.

Following a 13-year run as a PGA Tour Champions regular-season event, the Boca Raton Championship has been elevated to the Charles Schwab Playoffs beginning in 2020. The tournament, which will be held Oct. 26-Nov. 1 at The Old Course at Broken Sound Club, will be the second leg of the playoffs.

The winner will also leave Boca Raton with a heftier wallet as the purse increases from $1.7 million to $2 million.

Bernhard Langer is the defending Boca Raton Championship winner, having beaten the field by five strokes in February. The Boca Raton resident is a two-time winner of the event, which has previously been known as the Allianz Championship and Oasis Championship.

“The Boca Raton community has supported PGA TOUR Champions for over a decade, and the city’s enthusiasm and support make it a great place to host a Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs event,” said PGA Tour Champions President Miller Brady in a news release.

“Fans will continue to get unprecedented access to the game’s legends while watching them compete for one of the year’s most prestigious titles.”

This will mark the 14th consecutive year the Champions tour has held an event in Boca Raton.

The 2020 Boca Raton Championship, which will be broadcast on Golf Channel, will feature a 54-player field competing for the final 36 spots in the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship.
