Warriors guard Stephen Curry hasn’t been ruled out for the season, The Bay Area News Group reported Friday, refuting an earlier report that two-time league MVP likely will miss the entire season with a broken hand.

Bleacher Report’s Ric Bucher wrote Friday that “a team source says the fracture was worse than originally thought, and it’s unlikely that he plays again this season.”

The Warriors’ expectation is for Curry to be re-evaluated in February, as originally intended. They will decide on the next steps from there.

Curry had surgery last week for a broken hand he suffered in a loss to the Suns on Oct. 30. He will miss 45 games, and possibly more, but could still return by the end of the season.

The surgery on Curry’s non-shooting hand was performed in Los Angeles by Dr. Steven Shin, who recommended the threemonth timetable for a full recovery.

Shin, widely regarded as a top hand specialist, performed thumb surgery on Saints quarterback Drew Brees in September. Brees returned two weeks ago.

Smart draws fine: Celtics guard Marcus Smart was fined $15,000 by the league for public criticism of the officiating.

Smart was critical of game officials following the Celtics’ 108-87 road win over the Hornets on Thursday night.
