Man, 21, killed in rollover was careful, dad says

Passenger thrown from Jeep while driver was doing donuts

WELLINGTON – A 21-year-old man died Tuesday night when he was thrown from an SUV that flipped while the driver tried to do donuts on a cul-de-sac in Wellington, authoritie­s said Wednesday.

Ten people were crowded inside the 2019 Jeep Compass, with two of the passengers hanging outside the window ledge when it overturned, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff ’s Office.

The two hanging over the ledge were thrown from the car.

They were taken to St. Mary’s

Medical Center in West Palm Beach. Troy Carrabis, 21, died in the hospital. The other injured passenger, 15-year-old boy, had serious injuries, according to a Sheriff ’s Office crash report.

Friends and family took to Facebook to mourn Carrabis on Wednesday and to share a GoFundMe page for his funeral expenses. Those who donated described him as “adventurou­s, a “real friend” and a “great soul.”

Carrabis’ father Anthony Carrabis said in a text message that his son was a “good man and careful person.”

The crash happened just after 9 p.m. Tuesday in the 2300 block of Stotesbury Way in Wellington.

After the crash, the Jeep driver and seven of the other passengers ran away, the sheriff ’s office said.

One of the passengers “was detained a short distance away and returned to the scene for an interview,” the crash report said.

The identities of the others aren’t currently known.

According to specificat­ions available online, a 2019 Jeep Compass has seating for five people.
