Broncos taking real look at Lock

-

The Broncos are upping quarterback Drew Lock’s snaps at practice in preparation for his possible debut Sunday against the Chargers.

Coach Vic Fangio said Wednesday that the second-round pick from Missouri who has been on IR all season will take 75% of the snaps, with Brandon Allen taking the rest.

Fangio didn’t say when he’d make up his mind.

The Broncos (3-8) turned to Allen when Joe Flacco (neck) went on IR at midseason. He won his first start against the Browns but has lost to the Vikings and Bills. He threw for just 84 yards in a 20-3 loss to the latter Sunday.

That poor performance ignited speculation that Lock would finally get his chance despite having practiced only seven times.

Lock sprained his right thumb in the preseason and the Broncos brought him back to practice Nov. 12, starting a three-week evaluation window, after which they’ll have to activate him or banish him from practice until the spring.

Panthers lose Poe, Van Roten: The Panthers placed starting defensive tackle Dontari Poe (quadriceps) and offensive lineman Greg Van Roten (foot) on IR, and signed defensive linemen Woodrow Hamilton and Stacy McGee on Wednesday to replace them.

Poe played in all 11 games with eight starts and had four sacks, his most since his 2014 Pro Bowl season when he tallied six with the Chiefs.

Van Roten started 27 consecutive games for the Panthers dating to the 2018 season opener prior to the injury.

McGee is a veteran of six seasons, including the last two with the Redskins and has played in 75 cares with 29 starts. Hamilton was on the team’s preseason roster and has started one game during his NFL career.

Titans’ Walker done for season: The Titans have placed three-time Pro Bowl tight end Delanie Walker on IR for a second straight season.

The Titans announced Wednesday.

Walker had missed the last four games and played only five snaps Oct. 20 in a win over the Chargers after aggravating the right ankle he broke in the 2018 season opener. That injury cost him last season.

The tight end had 21 catches for 215 yards and two touchdowns in seven games this season.

The Titans filled Walker’s roster spot by signing kicker Ryan Santoso. the move
