Two starters on defense lost for final stretch of ’19

- By Safid Deen

The Dolphins placed two more players on injured reserve Tuesday, acquired three others and released a recent newcomer as they continue to tinker with their roster with three games remaining in the 2019 season.

Cornerbacks Ryan Lewis and Ken Webster, who both saw significant playing time on defense this season for the Dolphins, will be shut down for the final stretch due to recent injuries.

The Dolphins return to practice Wednesday to prepare for another trip to MetLife Stadium, where they will play their second game in as many weeks, this time against the New York Giants (2-11) on Sunday.

Lewis, who had an interception with 24 tackles (19 solo) and five passes defensed in eight games with three starts, left last Sunday’s game against the New York Jets with a hamstring injury. Webster, who returned from a left ankle injury that caused him to miss four games, will also be placed on IR.

The Dolphins have placed a total of 14 players on IR this season, headlined by cornerback Xavien Howard (knee), wide receiver Preston Williams (knee), safety Reshad Jones (chest), safety Bobby McCain (shoulder), receiver/return specialist Jakeem Grant (left foot) and running back Kalen Ballage (left foot).

The Dolphins added three more newcomers: defensive back Nate Brooks off New England’s practice squad and linebacker Jamal Davis off Tennessee’s practice squad, and were awarded tackle Adam Pankey off waivers from Green Bay.
