Wind and rain blowing into South Florida

- By Doug Phillips

Temperatures will go down slightly in South Florida, there will be some rain but most notably blustery winds will blanket the region with the arrival of a cold front.

Most of the showers that were forecast Wednesday, as the front was beginning to move in, dissipated before any significant rain fell over Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties.

The effects of the cold front will fully be in place Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

“This will notably be felt on Thursday with morning temperatures in the low to mid 50s along the western portions of South Florida, and low to mid 60s across the east coast,” according to the NWS forecast discussion. It will gradually warm up Thursday with an eventual high of about 73. It will remain breezy with winds from the northeast at 13 to 17 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. The rain chance stands at 40%. The 40% rain chance stays in place Friday when it will be a couple of degrees warmer and the wind will shift and be out of the east at 16 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

Conditions will remain unsettled into the weekend, according to meteorologists who are monitoring changes in the atmosphere that could alter the longerterm forecast.

Currently, Saturday is forecast to warm up a little with clouds hanging around and a high of about 77. The breezy conditions will remain in place with east winds from 16 to 18 mph and gusts up to 31 mph. The chance of rain will be 60%. The 60% rain chance continues Sunday as the winds shift to become out of the southwest at 8 to 10 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

Mid-week temperatures are expected to be near, or slightly below, seasonal averages.
