Gators secure No. 8 class

- By Edgar Thompson

GAINESVILLE — The Florida Gators signed 21 of 24 commitments and finished with the nation’s No. 8 class during Early Signing Day. Take a closer look at the class:

Impact players

Gervon Dexter, DT, 6-foot-6, 294 pounds, Lake Wales / Lake Wales: The Gators filled a major need by signing one of the nation’s top interior linemen. An Under Armour All-American, Dexter was a man among boys this past season at Lake Wales, recording 103 solo stops, including 35 for loss — 18 of them sacks.

Jahari Rogers, CB, 6-0, 170, Arlington High / Arlington, Texas: Rogers moved to cornerback for the first time in his career after starring at quarterback in 2018. He is ranked No. 7 at the position nationally. Rogers accounted for 3,489 yards, including 2,670 passing, with 46 touchdowns total (31 passing) during his junior season.

Jaquavion Fraziars, WR, 6-4, 212 Dunnellon / Dunnellon: The only receiver in the class, Fraziars averaged 20.3 yards and scored 12 touchdowns on 31 catches this past season. An Under Armour AllAmerican, he also totaled 153 tackles, six interceptions and 23 pass breakups the past two seasons.

Joshua Braun, OT, 6-6, 356, Suwannee High / Live Oak: Braun enrolled early and joined the Gators this past weekend for bowl practices. Massive, agile and quick-minded, Braun could push for a spot in the O-line rotation next season.

Rashad Torrence II, S, 6-0, 202, Marietta High / Marietta: A tad undersized but possessing excellent instincts, Torrence was a tackling machine during two seasons at Marietta, racking up 177 solo stops and 207 tackles overall, including six for loss. The Gators’ top three safeties are rising seniors, so Torrence will need to get ready to play.
