The NHL is increasing its promotion of women’s hockey by adding a three-onthree game between U.S. and Canadian national team members to its All-Star festivitie­s later this month in St. Louis.

The women’s game will happen during the Jan. 24-25 weekend that showcases the top players in the NHL, according to reports Monday.

The league is expected to announce the event later this week.

This isn’t the first time the NHL has invited female players to attend its All-Star game.

Two years ago, with Team USA training nearby in advance of the Winter Olympics, the NHL invited three American players to be on hand but not participat­e. Last year, four players were invited and American Kendall Coyne Schofield made a huge splash by becoming the first woman to participat­e in the skills event and then finished seventh in the fastest skater competitio­n.

Habs end Flames’ streak: Carey Price made 31 saves for his second shutout of the season and the Canadiens snapped the Flames’ five-game winning streak with a 2-0 victory Monday in Montreal.

Jordan Weal and rookie Ryan Poehling scored for the Canadiens, who have won two straight since losing eight in a row.

Caps’ Samsonov gets 1st shutout: Alex Ovechkin scored two first-period goals and Ilya Samsonov stopped 23 shots for his first career shutout as the Capitals beat the the visiting Hurricanes 2-0.

The win broke the Caps’ two-game skid and the Hurricanes’ three-game winning streak.

Samsonov improved to 13-2-1. He’s won eight straight games and hasn’t lost since Nov. 15.

It was the first shutout of the season for the Caps.

One-timers: Maple Leafs D Morgan Rielly will be out at least eight weeks after suffering a fractured foot during Sunday’s loss to the Panthers. Rielly, 25, has 27 points (three goals, 24 assists) in 46 games this season . ... The league suspended Oilers F Zack Kassian two games without pay for grabbing Flames F Matthew Tkachuk by the collar, throwing him to the ice and punching him several times during the teams’ game Saturday . ... Bruins G Tuukka Rask will skip All-Star weekend later this month in St. Louis. Lightning G Andrei Vasilevski­y was named as his replacemen­t. ... The league announced an extension of its agreement to hold its annual scouting combine at the Sabres downtown in Buffalo practice facility through 2022. Buffalo has hosted the combine since 2015.
