- By Adam Lichtenstein

LOXAHATCHEE — Despite falling behind early, Park Vista fought its way back into its game against Seminole Ridge. Coming out of halftime, the Cobras trailed by seven.

The Hawks quickly an end to that.

Seminole Ridge knocked down four 3-point shots in the third quarter, building an insurmountable lead. The Hawks took the win 73-58 in Loxahatchee on Wednesday.

“They were crucial,” Seminole Ridge coach Maria Hudson said. “They were door busters for us.”

Seminole Ridge (12-4) had eight 3-pointers in the game. Ashley Thornton had four, Shepherd three and Jahane Midget one.

Shepherd led the Hawks put with 24 points. Thornton finished the game with 18 points, and Midget had 17.

“Ashley Thornton being able to finally find her shot and get her groove back; she struggled a couple games ago, she was down on herself, … her point production really helped out,” Hudson said. “She’s definitely one of the players that helped.

“And I will say this: India Shepherd shot the ball well today, and Jahjnade Midget [did too]. But we had a key X-factor tonight. Timyah Whrisper was a big factor for us.”

Shepherd knocked down the first 3 in the third quarter, followed by one by Thornton before Shepherd hit two more to put the Hawks up 57-35.

“It feels great,” Shepherd said. “Like we’re hyping the team up, we’re team up.”

Park Vista (12-3) guard and preseason Fab Five pick Brooke Bogatz led all scorers with 30 points. Freshman forward Checorey Bouie had 13 points and 17 rebounds.

Hudson said her team, which has only six players on it, is fatigued after playing three games in the last week. Nevertheless, it managed to pull out a victory after suffering backto-back losses against Benjamin and Palm Beach Gardens.

“The girls are just outright fatigued, but they really played together tonight and pushed through all the fatigue,” Hudson said. “We only have six girls, so it’s a lot on their bodies to play 22 games.” picking the
