- By Brett Shweky

The field for the inaugural Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio event is close to being finalized.

Veteran golfers Natalie Gulbis and Madison Pressel recently received sponsor exemptions for the event and joined a 108-player field that will be competing for a $2 million purse on Jan. 23-26. The final field for the event at Boca Rio Golf Club in Boca Raton will be released Thursday.

Gulbis has been a member of the LPGA for almost 20 years and was the winner of the 2007 Evian Masters. The threetime Solheim Cup team member also has 37 career top-10 finishes and career earnings of more than $4 million.

Madison, the sister of longtime Boca Resident Morgan Pressel, has shined on the LPGA’s Symetra Tour for the past six years as she has had three top-10 finishes.

With her sponsor exemption, the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio will feature three sets of sisters with Madison and Morgan Pressel, Ariya and Moriya Jutanugarn and Jessica and Nelly Korda.

“We are excited to extend an invitation to LPGA veteran and fan favorite, Natalie Gulbis,” president and CEO Dan Towriss said in a release. “Madison Pressel is a great fit for us and for the community with an opportunity to play alongside her sister, Morgan, in their own backyard. We encourage the community to come out and support these talented players throughout tournament week.”

The LPGA is returning to South Florida for the first time since the ADT Championship was removed from the tour’s schedule in 2008.
