Circus where no animals harmed

- By Austen Erblat

A veteran circus performer is bringing his experience in Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey to South Florida with 16 performances of a vintage-style circus. And unlike many traditional circuses in which there have been reports of abuse of elephants, tigers and other species, no animals were harmed in the making of this production.

Performer Kirk Marsh will host Circus Kirkus in Boynton Beach near Sears at the Boynton Beach Mall, 801 N. Congress Ave., in Boynton Beach from Jan. 29 to Feb. 9.

“This jubilant show has been created by former Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus performer Kirk Marsh and a host of his friends from around the world,” organizers wrote in a statement.

“Circus Kirkus is a classic European one-ring show with death-defying acts presented in a circus tent imported from France. It is a show replete with grandiose intimacy and total audience engagement! This fascinating show features aerialists, jugglers, acrobats and comedy for all ages.”

In addition to performances and entertainment, there will be treats for sale.

“The tomfoolery begins inside the circus tent 30 minutes before each show with entertainment and fun surprises of all sorts,” organizers said. “We also have popcorn, cotton candy, pretzels and soft drinks for sale at our Treats and Eats concessions counter.”

In addition to Marsh, performers will include:

■Alyssa Morar, aerialist and cube spinner.

■Keith Kaplin, equilibrist and juggler.

■Nick Lowery and Rachel Randall, hand balancing and Adagio acrobats.

■Laura Gwendolyn Burch, aerialist and stilt walker.

General seating is $26.99 for adults and $16.99 for children under 12. Premium seating is $36.99 and VIP seating is $46.99. Babies under 18 months are admitted for free.
