Dolphins given second-worst odds to win 2021 Super Bowl

- By Keven Lerner

The Kansas City Chiefs are the early favorites to repeat as Super Bowl champions next year, while the Miami Dolphins are considered real long shots.

Just hours after the Chiefs rallied to beat the San Francisco 49ers in Sunday’s Super Bowl in Miami, Caesars Sportsbook already has published the odds for next year’s champion. The Dolphins are being given the second-worst odds at 100-1 to win next year’s Super Bowl, which will be held Feb. 7, 2021, at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. The Washington Redskins and Cincinnati Bengals have the worst odds at 200-1.

The Chiefs (6-1) opened as betting favorites, followed by the Baltimore Ravens (7-1) and NFC champion 49ers (8-1).

The New Orleans Saints have the fourthbest odds at 11-1. The New England Patriots (14-1), Pittsburgh Steelers (15-1), Green Bay Packers (18-1) and Dallas Cowboys (18-1) round out Caesars’ top eight.

The Dolphins’ other two AFC East foes — the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets — are getting 30-1 and 60-1 odds, respectively.

The Dolphins, under first-year coach Brian Flores, went 5-11 in 2019 to miss the playoffs for the 16th time in 18 years. They haven’t won a postseason game in 20 years, dating back to a 23-17 overtime win over the Colts on Dec. 30, 2000.

Dolphins owner Steve Ross last week acknowledged it could take several seasons to build a winner.

“We’re a team that’s building,” Ross said Friday during a Super Bowl event. “We’re at a stage with the Dolphins where we’re trying to build for the future and after. It’s a rebuilding process. We’re building a team, and we’re looking to build a team for the future that’s really going to be there year after year. That’s what we’re looking to do.”

The Dolphins, who overhauled their coaching staff during the offseason, also have a tough schedule next season — having to face both Super Bowl teams. In addition to their usual two games against the Patriots, they will face the Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks at home.

The Dolphins’ road schedule includes games against the 49ers, Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders.

The Dolphins, who have five first-round picks over the next two drafts, have three first-round selections in April’s draft — Nos. 5, 18 and 26.
