Show gives fans their soccer fix

With its inaugural Major League Soccer season on hold after two road games, Inter Miami CF has a show for fans looking to feed their soccer habit.

The club has started “OnSide,” its free weekly digital show that airs live on its official app at 12:30 p.m. on Thursdays. The show is also uploaded to its website and YouTube page.

Hosted by play-by-play commentator Andres Cordero and sideline reporter Kaylyn Kyle, the show analyzes news, breaks down film and features interviews and interactive segments to keeps fans engaged and informed.

Paul McDonough, Inter Miami chief operating officer and sporting director, and forward Robbie Robinson have both been guests so far on the show, which has released two episodes.

“You need something like this right now because there’s so much negativity going on in the world,” said

Kyle, a former professional midfielder who represented Canada in the 2012 London Olympics and 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Kyle played for multiple teams in the National Women’s Soccer League during her 10-year professional career and is also a reporter for beIN Sports.

“People are stuck in the house for 24 hours a day with their husbands, wives, kids, they’re homeschooling and trying to juggle work,” Kyle said. “We can give them a 30-minute show where they don’t have to think. They can just be engaged and shut their minds off.

“It’s a time where we can give the fans what they are craving right now.”

Kyle said her and Cordero’s experience working with one another at beIN Sports has helped them with launching the show. She calls Cordero “the most professional human being I’ve ever worked with.”

“He sees the game like a player will see the game,”

Kyle said. “But he’s got knowledge of the media side of it, where he knows the ins and outs of absolutely everything.”

Cordero, an FIU graduate who grew up in South Florida, said working with Inter Miami has been “much more personal” for him in comparison to his other jobs. He was in the midst of purchasing Inter Miami season tickets when he was hired to be a part of the club’s broadcast team.

“I really am one of them,” Cordero said about using the show to connect with fans. “I’ve grown up in the city.

“I really just want to be their voice, ask the questions they want to ask or look at the aspects of the club they might be interested in.”

In addition to offbeat segments like a happy hour featuring local breweries, OnSide plans to feature engagement from fans, who can submit questions to the show via WhatsApp at 305-428-0603.
