The Navy’s Blue Angels will be flying high over South Florida this afternoon.

In a tribute to health care workers, first responders and essential workers who are on the front line during the coronavirus pandemic, the Blue Angels will be visible from West Palm Beach to Homestead.

Dubbed “America Strong,” the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron’s flight will last half an hour. The goal is to fly by many of South Florida’s hospitals.

The Blue Angels will be over Boca Regional Medical Center about 1 p.m., according to organizers. The planes will head south to fly over Broward County hospitals toward Fort Lauderdale. Then they will head west toward Memorial Hospital and then south over Miami and Homestead before circling back north, flying over West Palm Beach about 1:30 p.m.

The Blue Angels, in a social media post Wednesday, encouraged residents to view the flyover from their homes while following social distancing rather than traveling to watch the show.

The Blue Angels have done similar demonstrations in Dal

las, Fort Worth, New Orleans and Houston. They also will fly over Jacksonville on Friday.

The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds were scheduled to perform at the National Salute to America’s Heroes Hyundai Air and Show on Memorial Day weekend on Miami Beach.

After the show was canceled because of coronavirus concerns, NSAH partnered with Hyundai to recognize four local health care workers, first responders and community members working to combat the pandemic.

This initiative, called “Salute 365,” will pick four winners to receive a 2020 Hyundai Sonata over Memorial Day weekend.

The winners will be picked by May 15 and be from three categories: health care professionals, first responders and unsung community heroes, according to a news release.

NSAH also partnered with the nonprofit organization Folds of Honor to donate a maximum of $15,000 to three South Florida students from families of fallen or disabled military members. Each student will receive a $5,000 scholarship that will also be announced over Memorial Day weekend.

“Because our show is so closely connected with Memorial Day, we think it’s fitting to pay tribute on that day to the deserving members of our community who are on the front lines fighting against this worldwide pandemic and express our appreciation and gratitude for their service,” Mickey Markoff, executive producer of the National Salute to America’s Heroes, said in a news release.
