Spacey compares layoffs, accusations

-

Disgraced actor Kevin Spacey is in the spotlight again, this time for remarks he made in a podcast episode posted in early April comparing the uncertainties people are experiencing because of the coronavirus crisis with his downfall after being accused of sexual assault.

“I will do my best to share some of my perspective on what it feels like to suddenly find yourself in a situation you could not possibly have prepared for or anticipated was coming,” Spacey said during a virtual event hosted by Germany’s “Bits and Pretzels” podcast.

“I don’t think it will come as a surprise for anyone to say that my world completely changed in the fall of 2017,” he continued. “My job, many of my relationships (and) my standing in my own industry were all gone in just a matter of hours.”

In his remarks, Spacey, 60, did not address any of the allegations and subsequent lawsuits. He did mention that it was “very different reasons and circumstances” that caused his unemployment. But he can relate to those who have lost their jobs because of the coronavirus crisis.

“I still believe that some of the emotional struggles are very much the same,” Spacey said. “So I do have empathy for what it feels like to suddenly be told that you can’t go back to work or that you might lose your job, and that it’s a situation that you have absolutely no control over.”

‘Let’s Make a Deal’ asks front-line staff to join special: Wayne Brady and the folks at “Let’s Make a Deal” want to honor those fighting the coronavirus — and they don’t have to wear their capes if they don’t want to. The CBS game show is asking frontline workers to submit a video audition for an upcoming special online edition. “The idea sprang into my head because I wanted for us at ‘Deal’ to not only bring smiles to our loyal Deal Family, but to give hope and something to look forward to,” said Brady, the host.

Jay Chou brings magic with his Netflix show: Mandopop superstar Jay Chou is bringing a little magic into viewers’ lives with his Netflix show “J-Style Trip.” Part travelogue, part magic performance, the show has Chou diving into adventures around the world with his A-lister friends. “Magic is actually like music. It is a universal language,” Chou said. Chou and his friends take their tricks everywhere — from Pompidou in Paris to a local food court in Singapore — taking homebound viewers on virtual trips.

Nick Cordero showing ‘early signs’ of waking up from coma: Broadway star Nick Cordero is in the “very, very, very early, early” stages of regaining consciousness after being in a medically induced coma for weeks while battling COVID-19. According to an update from his wife, Amanda Kloots, the “Rock of Ages” actor has opened his eyes and started to show “early, early, early signs” of tracking movement.
