Colbert rides paying off for him and now others as well
In lieu of on-field competition, Miami Dolphins safety Adrian Colbert has started up a new kind of competition — and this one is a win-win.
Colbert, nicknamed “Peloton Don” by a friend, was approached by Robert Bailey, the president of Rosenhaus Sports, to see if he might be interested in turning his fervent Peloton usage into a fundraiser.
So he got other Peloton enthusiasts, Seattle Seahawks linebacker Quandre Diggs and New England Patriots defensive back Adrian Phillips, to help. Each player donated $1 to the Jackson Health Foundation for every mile they complete this week. Proceeds will go to the hospital and front-line workers in their efforts to fight the ongoing
coronavirus pandemic.
“These ladies and gentlemen are out here putting their lives on the line every day,” Colbert told WPLG Local 10 News. “So anything that I could do to help give back to these people, I would definitely do, especially if it just takes me sitting on the bike and riding. I already do it every day.
His Peloton rides had gained a following on social media since he started posting them in late March, with some even trying to match him. Some fans have since joined in, pledging donations of their own.
For Colbert, the endeavor doubles as a way to stay in shape as he bides his time
before training camp and practices are allowed to commence. Any impending training camp figures to be an important one for him with competition aplenty in the Dolphins secondary.
Colbert, who played his senior season at the University of Miami, is entering his fourth season in the NFL and second with the Dolphins. He started five games for Miami at safety last season.
In the meantime, though, he’ll just keep riding his bike, hoping it compels others to join him in doing some good.
“It’s a blessing to give back,” Colbert said. “We’re here to serve — I believe that with all my heart. That we’re all here to serve each other.”
