Carranza and Robinson back from injuries as MLS is Back Tournament approaches

- By Khobi Price

Inter Miami CF’s roster for the MLS is Back Tournament will mostly resemble what it was before Major League Soccer suspended the season March 12, with the team’s biggest additions coming internally.

Julian Carranza has fully recovered from a left-foot injury he sustained in late January that forced him to miss Inter Miami’s first two games — a pair of road losses. He started to take part in the team’s voluntary individual training sessions in early May and is ready to make his MLS debut.

Robbie Robinson, who started at forward in Inter Miami’s first two games, has recovered from a knee injury he suffered against DC United on March 7 that would’ve kept him out for a few weeks. Both Carranza and Robinson, in addition to Juan Agudelo and Jerome Kiesewetter, being available for Inter Miami’s 18-man game-day roster against Orlando City SC on Wednesday will mark the first time the team’s forward contingent is fully healthy since

January.

Brek Shea joined Inter Miami after training with the club’s USL League One — Fort Lauderdale CF — since March. His presence will help fortify the team’s defense, especially since newly signed All-Star center back Leandro Gonzalez

Pirez is ineligible to play in the tournament, and Roman Torres will miss the game against Orlando City due to receiving a red card in Inter Miami’s last match against DC United.

Much of who starts in Inter

Miami’s defense depends on the team’s starting formation, but expect to see Nico Figal, Andres Reyes and Ben Sweat kick off things in the backline Wednesday, with Mikey Ambrose, A.J. DeLaGarza and Dylan Nealis in the mix either as reserves or one possibly joining the starting lineup.

As for the midfield, at least Wil Trapp and Victor Ulloa are expected to start off as the team’s defensive midfielders regardless of Inter Miami’s starting formation.

Lewis Morgan and Rodolfo Pizarro are locked to start as attacking midfielders, with Matias Pellegrini

and Lee Nguyen in the mix as reserves or one starting.

Don’t expect to see any changes at goalkeeper, with captain Luis Robles starting the team’s first two games with John McCarthy listed as the team’s reserve goalie.

Midfielder Luis Argudo, defender Christian Makoun and midfielder Jay Chapman are other players who were listed on the team’s game-day lineups in previous matches this season.

Inter Miami COO and sporting director Paul McDonough said “everyone” traveled to Orlando for the tournament outside of the team’s injured players — midfielders George Acosta and David Norman Jr., and defender Denso Ulysse. 4th of 4 rounds; Detroit GC; Detroit; Purse: $7,500,000; Yardage: 7,340; Par 72 265 $1,350,000
