President Trump keeps Florida residents safe

- By Armando Ibarra

For too long, we have witnessed politician after politician promise to make our broken immigration system a priority and each one fail to live up to their word. But not President Trump, whose “Promises Made, Promises Kept” agenda has once again lived up to the hype.

Recently, President Trump commemorated the 200th mile of the border wall. Floridians and Americans across the nation are grateful to him for staying committed to ending the humanitarian crisis at our southern border and putting our safety and communities first.

Finishing the building of the wall on the southern border is critical to curb illegal border crossings and crime like human trafficking, gang violence, and the movement of illegal and lethal drugs.

With apprehensions at the border surpassing 200,000 so far this fiscal year and illegal border crossings down 84 percent compared to this time last year, it is clear that completion of the wall is one of the most effective initiatives of the president’s plan. Additionally, the president has worked with Congress to sign legislation that eradicates human trafficking, weakens and abolishes sanctuary cities, and reforms our nation’s asylum system.

But more importantly, the Trump administration has delivered for Latinos with a foreign policy that stands up for democratic values and human rights. The president has made it clear that American interests do not align with failed socialist policies.

President Trump has restored our nation’s standing in the world and is standing up to bad actors. To promote democracy across the globe, the Trump administration has imposed sanctions on regimes in Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua.

The Trump administration rolled back the Obama-Biden administration’s disastrous rapprochement with Cuba, which benefited the Castro regime and not the Cuban people. Thanks to President Trump, 50 countries followed President Trump’s leadership in recognizing Juan

Guaidó as the legitimate leader of Venezuela. And most recently, at the direction of President Trump, the Treasury Department has imposed sanctions against senior officials in the Nicaraguan regime for their role in human rights abuses and undermining democracy.

Democrats have been quick to denounce the president’s wall and plans for immigration reform, but they have nothing to contribute to the national discussion aside from resistance and finger wagging. During their presidential nomination contest, we witnessed the Democratic Party race to the left on immigration as they called for open borders and tearing down the wall on our border.

Joe Biden has proven how extreme he is by coming out in support of sanctuary cities and saying illegal immigrants detained by local law enforcement should not be turned over to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency. Also, let’s not forget that Joe Biden is committed to providing government-funded healthcare to illegal immigrants.

Floridians know that unlike Joe Biden, President Trump will fight for democracy and human rights at home and abroad. Joe Biden has made it clear that he wants to return to the weak Obama-Biden Cuba policies that would strengthen the Maduro regime in Venezuela, and be a blanket acceptance of authoritarianism in Latin America. This is a direct insult to Floridians that fled the atrocities of socialist regimes.

This president promised us that he would build a wall, reform our broken immigration system, and stand up for democratic values and human rights, and he is staying true to his word. The Trump administration is committed to safeguarding freedom at home and across the world. Floridians will remember this come November when they vote to re-elect President Trump and Republicans up and down the ballot.
