Brevard state Rep. Fine, family all test positive

- By Mark Skoneki and Gray Rohrer

State Rep. Randy Fine, his wife and two sons all have tested positive for COVID-19, making Fine the second state lawmaker to reveal he has contracted the coronavirus.

The Brevard County Republican revealed the results on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

“I just tested positive for COVID-19, as did both our sons,‘’ his post reads. “This follows Wendy’s positive test on Monday. We all feel under the weather right now, but nothing that would raise alarm bells if it weren’t ‘COVID.’ Obviously things could change in the days ahead. I will update tomorrow; for now, it’s another shock to have internalize. At least the good news is that four of us can stop hiding from each other.”

An Orlando Sentinel reporter asked on Twitter if he could have been infected when he attended an event with Gov. Ron DeSantis on July 10. Fine responded that he thought his exposure came after that time.

“Our first exposure to a confirmed case was two days after this (exposed Sunday, but not confirmed until Friday),‘’ he tweeted. “My wife also was exposed to two more in that time. I almost certainly caught it from her. And at the outdoor event I was a number of feet away and wearing a mask.‘’

Rep. Shevrin Jones, DWest Park, reached out to Fine on Twitter after the positive test results were made public.

“Randy! Call me if you need me. Support, prayers, advice, etc. I’m here, brother!” Jones tweeted.

Jones announced on July 1 he tested positive for COVID-19. About two weeks later, Jones posted that he no longer positive.

The Legislature has not met in Tallahassee since it adjourned in March, but that could change later this summer. Lawmakers are awaiting new estimates on the damage to the state budget caused by the pandemic.

Gov. Ron DeSantis and legislative leaders have said they hope to avoid calling a special session to balance the budget. The Florida Constitution forbids state government from running a deficit. was testing
