Dolphins place 3 players on COVID-19 reserve list

-

The Miami Dolphins on Monday placed three players, including two former draft picks, onto the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list as players began to report to their Davie practice facility to begin training camp this week.

Cornerback Cordrea Tankersley, long snapper Blake Ferguson and defensive tackle Benito Jones will be under quarantine after either testing positive for COVID-19 or encountering someone who has tested positive.

The NFL’s list does not distinct which players fall under which designation.

Here is the NFL’s protocol which Tankersley, Ferguson and Jones will have to pass in order to return to the Dolphins facility:

If a player tests positive but has no symptoms, he can return 10 days after the initial positive test or after two consecutive negative tests within five days of the initial positive test;

If a player has a positive test and symptoms, he can return after at least 72 hours after symptoms have passed or at least 10 days after symptoms first appear;

Players who have close contact with someone who has symptoms will be tested and isolated as soon as possible. If the player has close contact with someone who has a positive COVID-19 test, he must have two negative tests before being allowed to return;

If a player has tested negative after coming into contact and continues to have no symptoms, he may return to the facility but will have increased symptom monitoring and more frequent testing.

Tankersley was Miami’s third-round pick in 2017 who has sparingly seen the field while recovering from a knee injury he suffered in 2018. He did not play during the 2019 season.

Ferguson, who won a national title with LSU this past season, was Miami’s sixthround pick in April’s NFL draft.
