The Miami Hurricanes continued to boost their 2021 recruiting class on Monday with the addition of Georgia edge rusher Thomas Davis, a three-star prospect who was previously committed to Mississippi State.

Davis’ announcement comes after UM landed Miami Palmetto wide receiver Brashard Smith, an Under Armour AllAmerica selection, on Sunday. He also tweeted his decision only a minute after Miami’s first 2021 basketball commitment, four-star point guard Bensley Joseph, day, another football commitment. made his announcement.

Davis is 6-foot-2 1⁄2 and 223 pounds out of Lowndes High in Valdosta, Georgia. He decommitted from the Bulldogs on June 8.

Davis made his original pledge to Mississippi State on April 18. UM offered him on May 18. He also received offers from Florida State and Arkansas after decommitting from the Bulldogs and had South Carolina and Indiana among others on his list.

Davis is the Hurricanes’ 21st commitment in the 2021 class, which is ranked in the top 10 by both 247 Sports and Rivals. He had 11 1⁄2 sacks in his junior season of high school, according to stats listed on his 247 recruiting profile.

An outside linebacker/defensive end prospect, Davis joins Miami Killian’s Tyler Johnson and Miami Northwestern’s Ja’Corey Hammett, the two outside linebackers already in the class. Committed five-star James Williams of American Heritage plays safety, but at 6 foot 5, 218 pounds, he could project to play closer to the line of scrimmage in college. Miami also has inside linebacker Deshawn Troutman, from Orlando Edgewater, committed.

Davis is not related to the NFL linebacker by the same name who has made three Pro Bowls with the Carolina Panthers, is now with the Washington Football Team at 37 years old and is also from Georgia.
