Genesis A. Allen passed away last month just two days after her first birthday, and the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the child died as a result of homicide.

Baby Genesis was found unresponsive by a caretaker on July 11 inside an apartment in the 1900 block of North Congress Avenue, according to West Palm

Beach police. Genesis was brought to a hospital that day, where she was later pronounced dead.

The people caring for the toddler have been interviewed, Sgt. David Lefont said Tuesday in a release. Lefont added that no other suspects were being sought.

According to an incident report from the Florida Department of Children and Families, Genesis’ father, whose name is redacted in the report, went to work around 6:30 or 7 a.m. that morning, leaving Genesis and her siblings home with their stepmother.

Genesis’ stepmother said she gave the baby a bath, but forgot a towel and ran to the other room to get one.

“She left the baby in the tub with a few inches of water for a minute while she went to get (a towel),” the report states. “During this time, she heard a ‘thud’ and came back and saw

Genesis pushing up from the water as if she had just fallen.”

The stepmother said that Genesis had a few cuts and bruises on her face and was sluggish after the fall, but otherwise “appeared alright.”

Genesis’ stepmother, whose name was also redacted, told DCF that after the bath she put Genesis down for a nap at about noon. She said she later found Genesis unresponsive. According to the report, the family drove Genesis to JFK Medical Center, arriving at around 1:20 p.m. Genesis was pronounced dead at 2:47 p.m.

No arrests had been made as of midday Wednesday.
