3 players activated from COVID-19 list

- By Safid Deen

One day after the Miami Dolphins added six players to their reserve/COVID-19 list, the team removed three players from the list Friday, indicating it may not be experiencing an outbreak-like situation like the one the Miami Marlins endured earlier this month.

Dolphins starting defensive tackle Davon Godchaux, new defensive lineman Shaq Lawson and rookie safety Brandon Jones are now able to return to the practice facility and participate in team activities.

Lawson and Jones were sidelined on the list for a day, while Godchaux’s stint lasted two days.

NFL players are required to be designated to the reserve/COVID-19 list if they either test positive or have come in close contact with someone who has tested positive.

Outside of the roster designation, NFL teams are not permitted to discuss a player’s medical status.

The Dolphins have placed 13 players (one player twice) on their COVID-19 list since training camp began in late July, with seven players being able to resume football activities, while one player was released.

The five Dolphins players still being withheld are projected starting left guard Ereck Flowers, rookie defensive tackles Raekwon Davis and Benito Jones, rookie offensive guard Solomon Kindley and rookie receiver Kirk Merritt.

Flowers, who first appeared on the list Aug. 2, is the only player who was not among the group of players added Thursday.

Jones, who signed with Miami as an undrafted free agent rookie out of Ole Miss, is the only Dolphins to appear on the list twice since training camp convened.

Dolphins captain and linebacker Jerome Baker, long snapper Blake Ferguson, running back/receiver Malcolm Perry, defensive tackle Zach Sieler, and former cornerback Cordrea Tankersley all appeared on the team’s list but have been removed from the roster designation.

Tankersley was waived by the Dolphins after being activated from the COVID-19 list on Aug. 4.
