Hard Rock casinos hiring extra COVID-19 security

Potential staffers invited to apply at hiring event

Dozens of new security personnel will be hired to enforce COVID-19 rules at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood and the rest of Seminole Gaming’s properties in the state.

The South Florida hiring event is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 12. Those interested in applying can register at GoToWorkHappy.com to receive an invitation to attend.

Seminole Gaming on Monday announced the wave of hiring as part of an upgrade of its Safe and Sound program designed to prevent the spread of coronavirus at its five properties operating in Florida.

Along with Hard Rock Hollywood, new staff will be hired at Seminole Classic in

Hollywood, Seminole Casino Coconut Creek, Seminole Brighton in Okeechobee and Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa. Seminole Casino Hotel in Immokalee remains closed.

The new hires, wearing distinctive uniforms, will focus on guest compliance with Safe and Sound requirements on face coverings, social distancing, crowd control and remaining stationary while eating or drinking, when masks may be lowered.

“Our comprehensive approach to dealing with COVID-19 is meant to ensure public safety and give our guests peace of mind when they return,” said Jim Allen, Seminole Gaming CEO and chairman of Hard Rock International, in a press statement.

Seminole Gaming recently changed the COVID-19 mask policy at its Florida casinos in response to a South Florida Sun Sentinel report that found unmasked

guests throughout the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood.

At the time, the Hard Rock allowed guests to lower their masks while eating, drinking or smoking, and permitted them to walk the casino floor while they did so. A rule requiring those unmasked guests to remain stationary was adopted immediately after the story was published.

In changing the mask policy, Allen predicted Seminole Gaming would beef up COVID enforcement staff at each casino. He said new team members would be chosen for their ability to be “customer-friendly, but yet firm.”

It has been nearly two months of highs and lows since Hard Rock Hollywood and its sister properties emerged from COVID-19 closure on June 12 with Safe and Sound rules in place.

On July 23, the same night the Sun Sentinel found guests mingling without masks, a Fort Lauderdale woman won nearly $4 million playing a $1 slot machine at Hard Rock Hollywood. The $3,854,682 jackpot on the IGT Megabucks game was the highest payout in history for Seminole Gaming’s Florida properties.

The next night a brawl broke out near the Guitar Hotel that yielded the arrest of three Miami-Dade County residents — and a pair of videos watched more than 4.5 million times.

On Saturday, Aug. 8, at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek, a woman who lives part-time in Boca Raton hit a progressive jackpot worth more than $2 million on a $3 slot-machine bet.
