RB Emmons on the Senior Bowl Top 250

-

FAU running back BJ Emmons was named to the Reese’s Senior Bowl Top 250 on Thursday.

If chosen to play in the game on Jan. 30, 2021, Emmons would join, Alfred Morris (2012), D’Joun Smith (2015) and Harrison Bryant (2020) as FAU players who competed in the Senior Bowl. Bryant, Morris and Smith were all selected in the following NFL drafts.

Emmons, who was ranked as the No. 3 high school running back in the nation in 2016, recorded 173 rushing yards on 35 attempts in six games during his freshman season at Alabama.

He played at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College for the 2017 season before joining the Owls and reuniting with Lane Kiffin, former Alabama offensive coordinator and FAU coach, in Jan. 2019.

His first season with FAU was set back by a broken ankle he suffered in the Owls’ opening game of the 2019 season against Ohio State.

Emmons returned to the field less than three months later, recording 236 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 50 attempts in FAU’s final four games.

He recorded 53 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries in his first game back after suffering the injury in a 40-26 victory against UTSA. Emmons finished with 71 yards on 11 carries versus Southern Miss, scored two touchdowns in FAU’s Conference USA title game win and recorded 72 yards on 17 carries in FAU’s 2019 Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl win over SMU.

Emmons is one of three FAU runnings backs (James Charles and Malcolm Davidson) who returned to the team after averaging at least 4 yards per carry last season.
