Say no to Amendment 3

The recent piece promoting Amendment 3 demands response. [”Say “YES!” to Amendments 2 and 3 on Florida’ s November ballot| Editorial ,” Aug .30] The author said people shouldn’t be forced to join a party in order to vote. That’s a choice you make, and it only pertains to the primary. During the Democratic primary season last year, Trump made it clear hewanted to run against Bernie Sanders. Had Republicans been permitted to invade the Democratic primary, Sanders might verywell have wound up as our nominee. The polls demonstrate why Trump didn’t want to run against Biden and why he tried to coerce Ukraine to produce dirt on Biden, which led to Trump’s impeachment. As a Democrat, I don’t want Republicans determining who is the candidate representing my voice. That’s an invitation for corruption.

Neither is there a penalty for being an independent. You get to vote in the general election on candidates in the finals, so to speak. Again, youmade the decision to sit out the primary.

The argument for “top two” rings hollow. In one of the Georgia primaries for the

Senate, a race that could affect control of the Senate, Democrats are likely to be shut out byKelly Loeffler and Doug Collins.

As for closed primaries being an impediment for Black candidates, seems to mewe have a lot of diversity in the Democrats’ House delegation.

Amendment 3 needs to be defeated on Nov. 3.
