Where to find a free meal in South Florida during the pandemic

With the rapid spread of the coronaviru­s in the community, one of the biggest growing concerns has been putting food on the table.

Broward and Palm Beach County Public Schools along with other organizati­ons have teamed up to make sure that families don’t go to sleep hungry while they’re on watch.

Here are some of the organizati­ons offering free meals.

SOUTH FLORIDA

Farm Share

Dates: Vary Details: Farm Share distribute­s fresh food freeof-charge to families, children, seniors and individual­s in need throughout Florida. The local non-profit partnered with Lyft, the driving service, to deliver food to those unable to reach the distributi­on sites. Bags included fresh produce, frozen proteins, non-perishable goods and bottled water.

Feeding South Florida

Dates: Vary

Details: Anyone in need can access Drive-thru sites, and grab-n-go BreakSpot sites, at various locations during different days during the week. Times and locations change from a week-to-week basis. Feeding South Florida also has a home delivery program and a network of partner agencies who are open and can assist.

Franklin Academy

Dates: Thursdays Hours: 6:30 - 7:30 a.m.; 4 - 5 p.m.

Details: Five-day packs of breakfast and lunch will be distribute­d to all children 18 years or younger. Franklin Academy’s Palm Beach Gardens campus will only be distributi­ng meals during the mornings.

Pollo Tropical

Dates: Monday - Friday Hours: 11 a.m. - noon Details: Children age 12 and under are eligible to receive a free meal from Pollo Tropical at all locations in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Children must be accompanie­d by a parent or guardian to receive the deal. Pollo Tropical will offer one free Kids Classic Tropichop with chicken, rice and beans along with a small bottle of water per child. No purchase, coupon or promotiona­l code is necessary for the promotion.

Together 4 Broward

Dates: Vary

Details: As an online resource for the community, Together 4 Broward lists entities throughout the county that are assisting residents during the pandemic.

With multiple locations around Broward County, healthy meals are offered from places such as food banks, Broward County public schools, churches and also local government agencies.

BROWARD COUNTY Area Agency on Aging of Broward County

Details: Seniors age 60 and up, who are in need of food resources, can put in a request for a frozen meal delivery to their residence for no cost.

Those who are currently not receiving any food through meal programs or normally have meals at a congregate meal site that is closed can qualify for this service.
