Build the FHP, and make the Sun Sentinel pay for it
In the editorial about the lack of state trooper patrols and enforcement on I-95 [“Crack down on I-95 speed demons,” Oct. 11], the opinions expressed called for more funding. This would cause an increase in spending, which would cause a tax increase. The editorial did not suggest where the funds would come from. Here is a suggestion how the Sun Sentinel could contribute to this funding. Many other goods and services are taxed, and perhaps it is time to consider a sales tax on advertising. Because it is commercial speech, no First Amendment issues are raised. If the editorial board of the Sun Sentinel suggested this, it would probably be adopted. This might be a sacrifice and ad revenue might be affected, however, look at the contribution the Sun Sentinel would make to the safety of the drivers in Broward County.
