Kanye West responds to ‘SNL’ joke
Kanye West has spoken out regarding a joke made by “Saturday Night Live” host Issa Rae about his involvement in the presidential election.
In the sketch, Rae played a lawyer for the NAACP being interviewed by talk show host Kenan Thompson on “Your Voice Chicago.” When asked about the upcoming election, Rae’s character responded that shewould be “voting for everybody Black,” in reference to Rae’s viral moment during the 2017 Emmy Awards when she said shewas “rooting for everybody Black.”
But, when Thompson, as the host, mentioned the presidential race “between Donald Trump, Joe Biden and Kanye West,” Rae’s character made her thoughts about West’s candidacy clear, saying: “Kanye? F— him!”
West responded to the joke on Twitter Sunday, writing: “I’ve always said ‘SNL’ uses black people to hold other black people back. My heart goes out to
Issa Rae. I’m praying for her and her family. I knowthat the twenty years of service that I’ve paid in the entertainment field has furthered our ability to be more successful.”
Super-powered fundraiser:
The Avengers are the latest group in Hollywood to support democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden by hosting a virtual fundraiser.
“Voters Assemble!” will feature “Avengers” cast members Don Cheadle, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Rudd, Mark Ruffalo and Zoe Saldana. They will join vice presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris and “Avengers: Infinity War” directors The Russo Brothers for a Q&A and trivia.
The fundraiser will take place Wednesday. Fans are able to donate any amount of money to the Joe Biden Victory Fund to attend.
Ruffalo, who plays Hulk in the “Avengers” universe, has been especially vocal about his support for Biden on social media, using his platform to encourage others to vote. Inone Instagram post, Ruffalo sported a mask that said “VOTE” with the caption: “Wemust elect champions whowill fight for the Green New Deal and push Congress to pass climate action that matches the scale of the problem with the urgency our country’s future demands.”
“Home Improvement” star arrested:
Zachery Ty Bryan, the actor who played the oldest son on the long-running 1990s sitcom “Home Improvement,” was arrested in Oregon and faces charges of strangulation and assault.
The Eugene Police Department said officers were dispatched to a North Eugene apartment Friday night on a report of a physical dispute. They found Bryan, 39, sitting outside and his girlfriend, 27, at a neighboring apartment. Bryan reportedly assaulted the victim, impeded her breathing, and took her phone away when she tried to call 911, police said. The victim declined medical assistance.
Bryan was booked into Lane County jail after 1 a.m. Saturday. Amessage left with a possible agent for Bryan was not immediately returned.
