Biden to make Broward stop today

Dem candidate to hold afternoon drive-in rally; Trump also to be in state

- By AnthonyMan

Joe Biden is holding drive-in car rallies today in Broward County and Tampa a she and President Donald Trump compete for attention in Florida at the exact same time on the same day.

Drive-in rallies have become signature of the Biden’s campaign. He uses them for appearances around the country, while keeping his supporters socially distanced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Biden will appear at 1:30 p.m. at a drive-in rally in Broward County, and hold another drive-in rally at 6:30 p.m. in Tampa.

The campaign, which limits attendance at events because of the pandemic, didn’t say where the events would be held.

On Wednesday morning, the Trump campaign said the president would also appear in Florida on Thursday. The pres-

ident will hold one of his signature large rallies at 1:30 p.m. Tampa. He’ll hold a second rally at 6:30p.m. in Fayetteville, N.C.

Thursday afternoon will be the first time Biden and Trump have appeared at the exact same time in the same state. Theywere both in northern Minnesota (at different times) on Sept. 18. And both were in Shakesville, Pa., (also at different times) for ceremonies marking the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The Florida visits come five days before Election Day.

The Broward County visit shows the importance the Biden campaigni s placing on the county, which has the largest number of Democratic voters in Florida. With its enormous Democratic advantage, there’s no doubt Biden will win the state’s second most populous county, but he needs to get a high as margin as possible over the president to win statewide.

The visit also shows the importance of Florida to both the Biden and Trump campaigns. Florida is the largest battleground state that could go for either candidate, awarding 29 of the 270 votes needed to win the presidency. Tampa is an anchor of the Interstate 4 corridor, the swing territory that runs through the central part of the state.
