- By Safid Deen

The Miami Dolphins are rewarding a newcomer with a new deal.

The Dolphins and tight end Adam Shaheen have agreed to a two-year contract extension on Wednesday.

ESPN reports the deal is worth $7.65 million with $3.2 million guaranteed that could keep the former second-round pick in Miami through the 2022 season.

“He’s come in. He’s really worked hard. I think he’s been productive over the first sixweeks of the season,” Dolphins coach Brian Flores said of Shaheen on Wednesday. “He was somebody we wanted to keep around for a few more years.”

Shaheen, who was acquired from the Chicago Bears before the season, has worked his way into Miami’s tightend rotation as both a capable pass catch er and blocker in some offensive sets.

Shaheen has caught a touchdownpass in each of the past two gamesfor the Dolphins (3-3), who will host the Los Angeles Rams (5-2) on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium.

Shaheen has five receptions for 58yards in six games, sharing time at tightend with Mike Gesicki and Durham Smythe.

The Dolphins acquired Sh a he en in July for a late-roundpick, as the tight end looked to revive a slow start to his NFL career in Miami.

Shaheen joined the Dolphins after injuries affected his first three seasons with the Bears, where he appeared in 27 of 48 games and produced 26 catches for 249 yards and four touchdowns.

“I’ve got a great opportunity and it’s worked out so far. But I still have a lot of work ahead,” said Shaheen, who played college football at Ashland University and has caught 40 passes for 307 yards and six touchdowns in his four-year NFL-career.
