Vega runs Western towin over Plantation

Western’s offense put on a show in its season-opening 55-41 win over Plantation, and running back Joey Vega led theway.

Thes enior running back opened his season by rushing for 203 yards and three scores on Friday night.

Here are some more top performers in Broward and Palm Beach County high school football from last week:

Collin Hurst | Western

The Wildcats’ sophomore quarter back had a strong debut, completing­19-of-28 passes for 240 yards, two passing touchdown san done rushing touch down. Daemon Fag an| American Heritage Fagan, a sophomore safety standout, picked off a pair of passes in American Heritage’s 23-17 win over rival Cardinal Gibbons. Lucas Lon dos| Western

Londos, a senior offensive lineman, anchored the line as the Wildcats racked up more than 500 yards of offense and seven touchdowns. James Williams | American Heritage Williams, a five-star prospect and Miami commit, blocked a field goal and returned it for a touch down in the Patriots’ win. He also forced a fumble near Heritage’s goal line to prevent a touchdown.

Jertav is Black| Cardinal Gibbons Black paced the Chiefs defensewit­h14 total tackles and had three tackles for loss in Cardinal Gibbons’ loss to American Heritage.

David Vadala | American Heritage Vadala, a sophomore linebacker, had five tackles, three tackles for loss and a sack in Heritage’ s win over Gibbons. Isaiah Farris | Cardinal Gibbons Farris, a junior cornerback, picked off a pair of passes in the Chiefs’ loss to the Patriots.

Anthony Hankerson| St. Thomas Aquinas

Hankerson, a junior running back, racked up 123 rushing yards and scored three touch downs in the Raiders’ 31-7 win over DeLand. Nyj el Ashley| TR UP rep Academy Ashley, a senior defensive back, had a pair of tackles and an intercepti­on that he returned 30 yards for a score as the Saint beat Miami Monsignor Pace, 34-14.

Zo’Marion Harper | Glades Central Harper, a junior quarter back, completed 22- of -31 passes for 417 yards and threw touchdown passes as the Raiders beat Palm Beach Central, 41-0.

Hayward McQueen| TRU Prep Academy

McQueen, a senior linebacker, had seven tack les, one sack and one forced fumble in TRU Prep’s win lastweek. Jeremiah Young| St.Andrew’s

Young, the Scots’ senior quarterbac­k, racked up 292 passing yards, three passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown in St. Andrew’s win over Westminste­r Academy. Jacob Camacho | Glades Central

The senior free safety had two intercepti­ons, including a pick-six for 88 yards in the Raiders’ 41-0 win over Palm Beach Central. He finishedwi­th 10 tackles.

Kolby Valencia | West Broward Valencia completed 6-of-11 passes for 160 yards and three touchdowns in a 43-0 win over Hollywood Hills. Matthew James| St.Andrew’s James, a standout athlete and Super 11 pick, had five catches for 130 yardsand a pair of touchdowni­n the Scots’ win. Micah Lewis| Westminste­r Academy

Lewis had 10 tackles, a tackle for loss anda sack as the Lions fell to the Scots. Sean Jordan| St.Andrew’s

Jordan, a junior linebacker, had a team-best 12 tackles and four tackles for loss in St. Andrew’s victory. Keshawn Barrett | Coral Glades Barrett, a senior running back, rushed for 138 yards and a pair of touch downs as Coral Glades beat Coral Springs, 34-14.

Tre’Von Taylor | Dwyer

The senior quarterbac­k led the Panthers to a 25-22 win over Pahokee as he went 10 of 15 for 251 yards and accounted for two touchdowns: one rushing and one passing. Jamari Collier | Coral Glades

Collier racked up 149 receiving yards on six catches in the Jaguars’ win. Dylan Rizk| American Heritage-Delray Sophomore quarterbac­k Dylan Rizk completed 13-of-21 passes for 244 yards and a touchdown. He added 10 carries for 79 yards in the Stallions’ 19-0 win over Cardinal Newman . Colby Geddis | Pine Crest

Geddis picked up 94 yards and a touchdown on only three carries inan 18-0 win over Archbishop McCarthy. Trey Rainey| American Heritage-Delray

Junior running back Trey Rainey ran 16 times for 142 yards, including a 60- yard touchdown run in the Stall ions ’19-0 win over Cardinal Newman.

Johnny Fishman| Pine Crest Fishman, a freshman linebacker, racked up a team-leading 13 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss in Pine Crest’s win.

Kalem Michel | American Heritage-Delray

The senior offensive guard and defensive tackle recorded nine total tackles, including four tackles for losses, a sack and four quarterbac­k pressures. Michel also had four pancakes at left guard in the Stallions’ 19-0 win over Cardinal Newman.

Sam Bach| Boca Raton

The senior defensive back had 4.5 tackles and a key intercepti­on in the Bobcats’ 20-7 victory over Boynton Beach.

Peyton Mainolfi| Royal Palm Beach The senior quarterbac­k threw for 340 yards and four scores in a 26-21 win over rivalWelli­ngton. Cody Walselewsk­i | Royal Palm Beach The junior wideout recorded 180 yards receiving and three touch downs in the Wildcats’ 26-21 win against Wellington.

Ricky Williams | Jupiter

The Warriors junior running back totaled 108 yards rushing and one rushing touchdown and added a 30-yard touchdown reception in a 46-14win over John I. Leonard.

Eric Singleton| Royal Palm Beach The senior strong safety had intercepti­ons on back-to-back drives and added 100 multipurpo­se yards in the Wildcats’ win.

Cory Gonsalves| Suncoast The senior running back led the Chargers in rushing with 112 yards in a 50-14 victory over Village Academy. Jorge Torres| Park Vista

The junior defensive line man had two fumble recoveries, including one for a touchdown, in the Cobras’ 25-7 win over Santaluces. K’ameronn Joseph| Olympic Heights The junior wide receiver finished with four catches for 163 yards and two touchdowns in the Lions’ 21-7 victory over Spanish River.

Jay LeBrun| Park Vista

The senior defensive end recorded four sacks in the Cobras’ 25-7winover Santaluces.

Jean Alfonso| Olympic Heights The senior safety led the Lions defense with 12 tackles, one pass deflection and an intercepti­on in a 21-7 victory over Spanish River.
