Del Rey promises standards album

-

In an Election Night post froma Denny’s, Lana Del Rey gave an update on her forthcoming album, promised a “digital record of American standards and classics for Christmas,” and posted a lovely version of the 1945 showtune “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

The post begins with Del Rey and Clay Johnson discussing the election results. She then updates fans on the progress of her latest album, “Chemtrails Over the Country Club,” which she says has been delayed for “16 to 17 weeks” due to backlogs at vinyl pressing plants. However, she said she’ll be releasing a digital album of “American standards and classics” in time for the holidays, including “Patsy Cline songs, some Americana with Nikki Lane,” referencing the singersongwriter who opened her 2019 “Rockwell” tour and performed with her.

Finally, she mentioned her version of “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” from a new documentary about the Liverpool soccer team, which she delivers in an a capella version that shows off her range.

Nolan defends ‘Tenet’

Box office results results: for “Tenet,” Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi epic, have been heavily scrutinized in the weeks since its release. The film has grossed nearly $350 million globally in two months— prompting debates of whether that’s a disappointing or decent figure during the pandemic.

“Warner Bros. released ‘Tenet,’ and I’m thrilled that it has made almost $350million,” Nolan said.

However, he expressed concern that other studios haven’t been nearly as enthusiastic. In the weeks following the film’s debut, almost every major movie set for 2020was pushed into next year or later. “I amworried that the studios are drawing the wrong conclusions from our release,” Nolan said.

Nolan, a vocal supporter of movie theaters, remains optimistic about the viability of the exhibition industry. He conceded that there may be a “new reality” after coronavirus abates.

Warner Bros. apologizes after ‘Witches’ backlash:

Warner Bros. has apologized after being criticized by people with disabilities over the depiction of Anne Hathaway’s character in “The Witches.” In a statement, the studio said it “regretted any offense caused.”

In the recent adaptation, Hathaway’s villainous character, known as the Grand Witch, has missing fingers. Many people with disabilities pointed out that she appears to have ectrodactyly, a limb abnormality that’s commonly referred to as “split hand.” Advocates fear that portraying villains with physical defects can perpetuate

stereotypes that disabilities are abnormal or scary.

Paralympic athlete Amy Marren said shewas “disappointed” in Warner Bros. and questioned if there “was there much thought given as to how this representation of limb differences would effect the limb difference community.”

A spokesperson for Warner Bros. said the studio was “deeply saddened to learn that our depiction of the fictional characters in ‘The Witches’ could upset people with disabilities.”
