New tips and leads have given Fort Lauderdale police some extra momentum toward solving lastmonth’s killing of a popular young dancer known as the “King of Dance ,” the victim’ s father says. And a $3,000 reward to catch the killers may only help bring arrests soon, he says.

“We are closerto catching the suspect and finding out that the people who actually did this to him,” said Richard Gallon, whose 23-year-old son, Roderick, was shot dead outside a closed Wal greens on Oct. 16.

Roderick Gallon was killed in the middle of the night while walking back to his car, which he parked in the parking lot of the Walgreens. Gallon’s friend, a teen whose namewas with held by police, phoned911 to report the shooting.

Richard Gallon said he’s been in touch with the police, and a combined effort of police work and citizens coming forward with information about the killers has been yielding progress. At least three people are being sought in the killing.

A spokeswoman for the Fort Lauderdale Police Department said that detectives have received some anonymous tips and that they were trying to verify the accuracy of those tips.

Richard Gallon said he believes that the suspects were involved in a local gang. The son’s death couldn’t have been over his jewelry, his dad figures. Roderick Gallon wore two flashy gold chains and a Rolex watch all worth about $3,500, but the robbers didn’t steal his valuables, his father said.

The teenage friend who witnessed the shooting, however, was robbed of his jewelry, according to police.

Just moments before the robbery-turned-shooting, the suspects were captured on surveillance cameras breaking into a car.

Foot ager eleased by police shows them breaking into and rifling through a car in a parking lot adjacent to the one where Gallon was killed.

As the investigation continues, Richard Gallon has been working to start a nonprofit dance school in his son’s name to help get kids off the street. He says he already has some sponsors fromc hurches to other dance schools but will need to secure a location to house the school.

In the meantime, he’s been hosting dance classes for kids at Sunland Park in Fort Lauderdale every Wednesday from6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Anyone with information about the killing may call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
