Testing and positivity rates Deaths
Public health experts say the virus is considered under control when the COVID-19 test positivity rate is under 5%. Florida exceeds 5% by both of its measures of assessing the rate for testing of residents.
In the first calculation, the state reported a daily positivity rate of 6.2% on Thursday. This method of calculating positivity counts new infections only, but also counts repeat negative tests, which skews the figure downward.
According to the state, Thursday’s newcase numbers reflect the results of 99,441COVID-19 tests of Florida residents received from labs in the past day, up from 56,626 results reported Wednesday.
In the second calculation, which includes retests of people who were previously diagnosed, the statewide daily positivity rate is 7.35% based on the latest results for 108,800residents. That’s down from 9.32% the previous day.
Broward County: Daily positivity rate of 6.36 for people with new infections only. That’s down from 6.95% the previous day. Test results for 12,493 county residentswere tallied on Wednesday and reported Thursday.
PalmBeachCounty: Daily positivity rate of 7.19% for people with new infections only, down from 7.67% the previous day. Test results for 6,146 county residents were tallied on Wednesday and reported Thursday.
Miami Dade County: Daily positivity rate of 6.85% for people with new infections only. That’s up from 6.79% the previous day. Test results for 20,134 county residents were tallied onWednesday and reported Thursday.
