Six more games in Broward canceled due to COVID-19
Six more Broward County football games scheduled for this week have been canceled due to COVID-19, according to Broward County Public Schools spokes woman Cathy Brennan.
Deerfield Beach vs. Dillard, Cooper City vs. Everglades, Fort Lauderdale vs. Boyd Anderson, Flanagan vs. West Broward, Hollywood Hills vs. Nova and Western vs. Dillard have been canceled due to COVID-10 concerns, Brennan said.
Cypress Bay vs. Western was also scheduled for thisweek and canceled. That cancellation was previously reported when the Lightning’s season-opener was canceled. Nova’s season opener was canceled, aswell.
“At all times, the health and safety of our students and staff are our priorities,” Brennan said in an email. “Broward County Public Schools high schools continue to follow established District and (Bro ward county Athletic Association) protocols, as well as guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local health professionals.”
Deerfield Beach, Cypress Bay, Cooper City, Fort Lauderdale, West Bro ward, Nova and Western are the teams with C OVID -19 “concerns.”
Deer field Beach was originally scheduled to play Dillard, but that gamewas canceled and Western was scheduled as the Panthers’ new opponent before Western had coronavirus concerns.
At least 10 Broward County public school games have been canceled through the first two weeks of their football season.
According to the school district’ s corona virus dashboard, Cooper City has one studen twho has tested positive, Cypress Bay has three employees and eight students who have tested positive, Deerfield Beach has four employees and three students who have tested positive, Fort Lauderdale has one employee who has tested positive, Nova has three employees and one studen twho have tested positive, Western has one employee and 11 students who have tested positive and West Broward has one student who has tested positive.
The district’s coronavirus dashboard is updated on Tuesdays and Fridays.
