Brice to miss CMAs due to virus

Country singer Lee Brice has tested positive for COVID-19 and will not perform as scheduled at the CMA Awards on Wednesday. Arepresent­ative for Brice said Sunday that he is “in good spirits and not experienci­ng any symptoms.”

Brice was tested ahead of the show, which will be broadcast on ABC from Nashville, Tennessee, where he had been scheduled to perform with Carly Pearce. The two are nominated for their duet “I Hope You’re Happy Now.”

Brice will be isolating at home until he’s cleared by a doctor, according to a statement fromhis representa­tive. ACMA spokespers­on said Brice was tested and received his result before arriving onsite for any show rehearsals or activities.

Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard later became the second artist whowill miss a scheduled performanc­e at the CMA Awards due to COVID-19.

Hubbard posted a note on his Instagram page on Monday saying hewas asymptomat­ic and quarantini­ng on his bus outside hishome.

Associatio­n said in a statement that itwas disappoint­ing the artists would not perform, but itwas a sign that its COVID-19 precaution­s were working.

B TS, Lady Ga ga top MTV Europe awards: The South Korean pop group BTS won a leading four awards including best song for “Dynamite” and best group at the MTV Europe Music Awards, while Lady Gaga took the best artist prize. BTS also picked up best fans and best virtual live act for Bang Bang Con.

The show honoring the best in global music aired Sunday on the network with performanc­es from Alicia Keys, Sam Smith, Doja Cat and DaBaby. The girl group Little Mix hosted.

Gaga beat out Harry Styles, Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus and The Weeknd for the best artist prize. She lost out for best video, however, which went to DJ Khaled for “Popstar.” The collaborat­ion with Drake bested the likes of Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion for “WAP.”

Cardi B did pick up the best hip-hop award, however. Cold play won best rock, Haley Williams got best alternativ­e, and Little Mix was named best pop. The best Latin award went to Karol G, who also won best collaborat­ion for “Tusa” featuring Nicki Minaj.

David Guetta, who won best electronic, also performed from Budapest. Singer-songwriter Y UN GB LU D won best push act, and Doja Cat took home the best new artist honor.

Trebek’s last ‘Jeopardy’ to air Dec. 25:

Alex Trebek will stay on the air through Christmas, thanks to the “Jeopardy” production schedule.

The iconic host, who died Sunday after a battle with pancreatic cancer, had been in the studio until Oct. 29 and recorded enough episodes to last until Dec. 25, Sony said in a statement. The future of “Jeopardy” is still in the air after that, and the studio said Sunday it is not announcing plans for a new host “at this time.”
