Hall of Famer Lasorda hospitalized
Hall of Fame manager TomLasorda has been hospitalized in SouthernCalifornia.
The Dodgers said Sunday that their 93-year-old former manager was in intensive care and resting comfortably at a hospital inOrangeCounty. Lasorda lives in Fullerton.
He attended the team’s Game 6 victory over the Rays on Oct. 27 in Texas that clinched the Dodgers’ first World Series title since 1988.
Lasorda had a record of 1,599-1,439 while managing the Dodgers from1976-96, guiding them to World Series championships in 1981 and ’88. The franchisewon four National League pennants and eight division titles under Lasorda. He had a heart attack in June 1996 and retired from managing the Dodgers followingmonth.
In 2012, Lasorda was hospitalized in NewYork after having a heart attack.
Colleges: South Carolina fired football coach Will Muschamp, ESPN reported. The Gamecocks dropped their third straight straight game Saturday to fall to 2-5. Muschamp was in his fifth season as South Carolina’s coach. He was 28-30 overall. Offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, former head coach at Colorado State, will be the interim head coach. ... announced that men’s basketball coach Anthony Stewart died. He was 50. No cause of death was given. Stewart had been coach of the Skyhawks since 2016, when he was promoted from associate head coach to the top spot to replace Heath Schroyer. As coach, Stewart led UT Martin to a 22-13 record in his first season at the helm, earning a spot in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. The 22 wins equaled the school record for most in a season.
Cavaliers G Kevin Porter Jr., a 2019 first-round draft pick, was arrested on a charge of improperly handling a firearm in a vehicle.
