Jeanpierre named offensive line coach

- By Safid Deen

Brian Flores has made another change to his Miami Dolphins coaching staff.

And the latest move is a promotion from within.

On Tuesday, the Dolphins named Lemuel Jeanpierre as their new offensive line coach, promoting him after one season with the team as assistant offensive line coach. Jeanpierre, who played seven NFL seasons and spent three seasons as an assistant position coach, will replace Steve Marshall, who held the position during the 2020 season under former offensive coordinator Chan Gailey.

Flores and the Dolphins are still in the process of hiring the next offensive coordinator, after Gailey resigned following the 2020 season.

Chargers quarterbacks coach Pep Hamilton, Dolphins

running backs coach Eric Studesville and Dolphins tight ends coach George Godsey are among reported candidates to interview for the position. The Dolphins could also interview other potential candidates.

Steelers quarterback coach Matt

Canada, 49ers run game coordinator Mike McDaniel and Clemson offensive coordinator Tony Elliott were candidates for the Dolphins offensive coordinator job, but all three are reportedly staying with their current teams.

Flores is looking for his third offensive coordinator in as many seasons.

The Dolphins’ new offensive coordinator will have a rookie position coach to work with in Jeanpierre, who won the Super Bowl in 2014 while with the Seattle Seahawks.

Jeanpierre will coach young Dolphins linemen such as left tackle Austin Jackson, right guard/ tackle Robert Hunt and left/right guard Solomon Kindley — who will each enter his second NFL season in 2021.

Veteran left guard Ereck Flowers

and veteran guard/tackle Jesse Davis are under contract next season, while center Ted Karras is a free agent. The Dolphins could also add another piece or two to their offensive line in free agency or the draft this offseason.

Jeanpierre was first hired as an assistant position coach by the Seahawks and spent two seasons in the same role with the Oakland Raiders before joining the

Dolphins.

Jeanpierre played six NFL seasons (2010-15) as a center and guard with Seattle, appearing in 63 games with 11 starts. He also spent time with Kansas City (2010) and Detroit (2016).

Jeanpierre was born in Gretna, Louisiana, and moved to Orlando where he played at Timber Creek High School before playing college football at South Carolina.
