Perry pulls name from transfer portal

- By David Furones

Miami Hurricanes quarterback N’Kosi Perry has withdrawn his name from the NCAA’s transfer portal, according to multiple reports.

247 Sports first reported Perry’s withdrawal Tuesday and The Athletic confirmed it.

Perry initially entered the portal, showing his intent to transfer and allow other schools to recruit him, on Jan. 7.

A redshirt junior last season out of Ocala Vanguard, Perry had been in and out as Miami’s starting quarterback over the 2018 and 2019 seasons. When D’Eriq King transferred to UM from Houston ahead of the 2020 season, Perry was relegated to backup duties behind King.

King has since decided he will return to the Hurricanes for the 2021 season, a sixth year in college for him, utilizing the extra year of eligibility the NCAA is granting all football players because the 2020 season was played amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although King tore his ACL in the Dec. 29 Cheez-It Bowl loss to Oklahoma State, Miami expects him to recover in time for fall camp in August.

In relief of King in the bowl, Perry went 19 of 34 for 228 yards and two touchdowns, nearly leading the Hurricanes to a comeback in their 37-34 defeat.

“I’m committed to this school, and right now is not the time to be talking about transferring or anything like that,” Perry said after the bowl game. “I’m all about the U, and I just want to get back with my team right now.”

Over 24 games played and nine starts in his UM career, Perry completed 52.4% of his passes for 2,484 yards, 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

In 2018 and 2019 he was in and out as starting quarterback with Malik Rosier and Jarren Williams, respectively.

Freshman Tyler Van Dyke and redshirt freshman Peyton Matocha set to return for Miami next season behind King, while the Hurricanes welcome incoming four-star recruit Jake Garcia.
